ABSTRACT
This study was carried out in order to detect the prevalence of Gongylonema pulchrum in sheep in the Kars region. For this purpose, a total of 200 sheep were examined macroscopically. The diagnosis was based on the characteristic and morphologic features of G. pulchrum. G. pulchrum were found in the esophageal muscle in 80 (40%) out of 200 sheep. The number of parasites from each esophagi varied from 1 to 12 and a total of 282 G. pulchrum were collected of which 164 were male (58.15%) and 118, female (41.85%). Statistical assessment of the numerical distribution of the infection according to age groups and sexes within group and between groups was performed by the chi-square test using the SPSS program for Windows. No statistically significant difference was observed between these groups (P>0.05).
