ABSTRACT

In this study, between March-October 2000, flea infestation was found on two sheep farms in the area surrounding Elazig. Fleas were found in two sheep farms on the following inhabitants: 13 (59.1%) of 22 humans, 65 (28.9%) of 225 sheep, 23 (88.5%) of 26 chickens, 4 (100%) of 4 roosters, 3 (100%) of 3 dogs, 5 (100%) of 5 cats. These were found to be infected by one or more flea species. Out of 231 flea samples the following species were detected: C. canis (34.7%), C. felis (33.3%), P. irritans (21.6%) and X. cheopis (10.4%). Inhabitants of excessively infected farms were treated with Solfac 5% (Cyfluthrin) and Bolfo 1% (Proposcus). After treatment, flea infestation could not be detected.
