ABSTRACT
In this study, 483 patients who presented at the Parasitology Laboratory of the Adnan Menderes University of whom 431 (89%) were female and 52 (11%), male, were screened retrospectively for a possible diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. The presence of IgG and IgM anti Toxoplasma gondii antibodies were investigated in all of the patients using the indirect ELISA technique and IgG Toxoplasma gondii antibodies using the IFA technique in 263 of the patients. Out of 483 specimens, 144 (30%) were anti- Toxoplasma IgG positive with the ELISA technique at a titer of ≥1/256 and out of 263 specimens, 79 (%30) were anti-Toxoplasma. IgG positive with the IFA technique at a titer of ≥1/16. It was found that out of 483 specimens, 18 (2.6%) were anti-Toxoplasma IgM (≥1/64) positive. Out of these 18 patients, one was found to be anti-Toxoplasma IgM positive with the Toxonostica IgM capture ELISA commercial method. Our findings are important due to the fact that it is the first screening of toxoplasmosis seroprevalence in Aydın.
