ABSTRACT

The aim of this preliminary study was to determine the incidence Trichomonas vaginalis in our area. The group under investigation consisted of gynecologic patients with various complaints who came to the Gynecology Polyclinic of the Cumhuriyet University Medical Hospital. Vaginal smears were taken from the posterior fornics of these patients. Three samples were taken from each person with sterile swaps. One of the samples was taken for cultivation, one for a direct preparation and the last for Giemsa staining. All of the slides and cultures were evaluated in the Medical Parasitology Research Laboratory. Sixty-one female patients were included in our investigation. Besides the primary complaints of 39 (63.9%) patients, there were also vaginal discharges and complaints of itching in the group under investigation. Trichomonas vaginalis was found in 2 patients (3.2%).
