ABSTRACT

In this investigation, the records of patients with malaria that had been detected by the Health Directorship of Afyon between 1997 and 2003 were examined, retrospectively. During this 7-year period, a total of 23,474 blood specimens were examined and a total of 43 (0.18 %) malaria cases were detected. Of these, 33 (76.7 %) were male and 10, (23.3 %), female. It was found that the agents of malaria were Plasmodium vivax in all cases. It was also found that 79 % of them were imported cases who had come to Afyon from other regions for different reasons.
